Back East

When I was little people would say, "oh he/she is from back east," or "we are going back east." My naive little brain thought that back east was a state. Growing up in CA I thought everything on the east coast was so far way and that being from "back east" was sort of magical or cool. I had two cousins from Massachusetts and they were my cousins from back east. I was cool because I knew someone there. We lived in DC for 4 years and we were the ones from back east and we will be again soon. My kids will be known as the cousins from back east and for a year and a half or so there will be another cousin from back east. Yep, that's right my sister Katie had her beautiful baby boy on Tuesday morning and he is darling!!!!!! His name is Preston Daniel Spear and he was 6 pounds 9 ounces and 18 and a half inches long. I just wanted to congratulate Katie and let her know how excited I am to have another adorable nephew! I can't wait to be a back easterner with you again soon.

*I will try to get a picture to post soon.

We got out of the house

We finally left the house. I needed to do some errands and get the oil changed. It was about 2,000 miles overdue, oops! We went to the post office too and by the end, we were only out for about an hour, Alexa said she was exhausted. Alexa actually caught the bug and started throwing up on Saturday afternoon. Luckily she only threw up twice and she was better by Sunday morning. Dallin threw up again on Friday a few times. After that was finally over he had awful diarrhea. Sorry probably TMI, but it was so sad. His diarrhea has finally slowed to the point that we could get out for a few minutes. We took them to an easter egg hunt on Saturday morning, pictures will come later. Alexa loved it, but Dallin just looked at me like "why am I here?" But the point is here that we are finally feeling better around here. It only took a week!!

It's 9am and Dallin is still sleeping soundly in his bed with no vomit in it. He has been so sick that each day he has taken no less than four baths and I have had to buy more than one bottle of carpet cleaner. He looked so sad yesterday that I held him while he tried to go back to sleep and then he threw up so much on me that we both had to bathe. I am hoping that he is still asleep because his body is just getting its energy back. He has been such a trooper though. He asks for food and I give him toast and Gatorade and he just accepts that that is what he is going to get. He eats it and then throws it up and then just says, "time for bath, Mommy."

I miss my cute little crazy guy. There has been no energy around our house and the only time we have left in the last 4 days is to take Alexa to school and buy more carpet cleaner, paper towels and Gatorade! I take that back, we did leave to go to soccer practice which I had to cancel, (I am the coach). I had to cancel at the last minute because Dallin was throwing up again. I thought I was going to be able to put him in the stroller lined with a towel and conduct practice. I dropped off game schedules and then we ran home, it is a good thing we did because he threw up again when we got home.

Alexa and I have been washing our hands like crazy and we (cross your fingers) have been able to escape. We may go on an errand* today, but we will stay away from anyone we know because I wouldn't wish this bug on anyone!

*I promise to use a Clorox wipe to clean any carts we use. Most of the stores I go to have them near the carts and I will be using them every time I go to a store from now on.

It's Not Food Poisoning!!!!!

Jeff got sick on Saturday night with what we thought was food poisoning because it came on so suddenly and he had eaten something different than the rest of us. It was bad, very bad. He went to work on Monday but stayed home today because he was up all night last night. We left him here this morning while Alexa went to school and Dallin and I went to the gym. We then went to Target afterward and Dallin was acting great! That should have been my first sign. He wasn't begging for things at the store. As soon as we walked in the house he threw up, why couldn't he have thrown up outside?!?!! I thought, maybe he gagged. I guess I should I hoped, and prayed, but then a few minutes later he threw up again. We are hanging out watching Curious George and drinking Gatorade now. We just had this a few months ago. Why us again? I know I will get it too because I always give Dallin kisses and today was no exception. Wish me luck!

Power Struggles and a PBJ

I swear I am raising teenagers around here. This afternoon we came home from school to have a lovely afternoon. Dallin's friend was coming over to play and it was going to be great! I was also babysitting a 6 month old. I made PBJ's for Alexa and Dallin because they specifically asked for them and then proceeded to get the baby to sleep. The kids both had one bite each of their sandwiches and then ran off to play with their friend. I thought that was fine but I reminded them that they needed to eat. After about 10 minutes Alexa came back and her sandwich was dry go figure. She insisted that I make her a new sandwich and this time turkey with cheese, tomato, lettuce and mustard. I tried to make her eat the sandwich she requested but she cried and said it was too dry and she changed her mind about the PBJ. I held out for about 10 minutes but then I lost and made her the turkey sandwich.

As this was happening Dallin was running around like a crazy man slamming and LOCKING every door in the house. I tried to tell him that in our house we do not slam doors. He's 2 have you tried to reason with a 2 year old lately? Just a hint, it doesn't work. I kept saying knock it off Dallin and then he would say, "Knock it off Mommy." I am losing the power struggle, how can I be losing I am the adult? They are kicking my tail!

I sat down with Dallin and read him a few books to see if that would help. He sat with me for a while but when we were done with a few he just went back to locking me out of his room. Isn't he supposed to lock me out when he is like 15? I wonder where they get this need for control, oops maybe from me the queen of control. For now, I guess I need to choose my battles. How do you decide which battles are worth fighting?
