We Made It

We made it to Denver! We got here on Sunday at around 5:00 Denver time. We were so glad to finally be off the road. We drove to Indianapolis the first day(kind of a dirty, ugly city). The next day it was on to Kansas City and then the final day on to Denver. The kids were really good and we made good time each day. We just made sure we were not the fastest cars on the road. Other cars that were going just a smidge faster than we were got pulled over, so it was good that we made sure not to be those cars.

Alexa made a memories book the whole time we were driving. I am going to take pictres of her memory book and put them on when I have access to posting pictures. All in all it was an uneventful trip, which is exactly what we wanted. We are having a fun time with my sisters and the kids cousins. Last night my sister hosted a barbecue at her house. It is kind of strange to actually live somewhere where we can get together with family. We have never had that before.

We checked out our apartment yesterday and moved some stuff in. We don't have our things yet. The last time we looked all of our things were sitting in Ohio. Hopefully they get here this weekend. We would like to move in. My sister is so nice to let us stay with her until we get our furniture. I will post pictures of the apartment soon too. We have a private entrance and a garage!!!!! I think Jeff sat in the garage for about 10 minutes yesterday just admiring it. He feels like a real man now that he has a garage.

we are going to Alexa's school today to get her registered. School starts on the 13th. She is so excited to be going to kindergarten. We are excited to be here, but we really miss our friends in Virginia. The east and the west are quite different. We are excited for this adventure though. I will post pictures soon.

The time has come

Jeff is in Roanoke right now taking the bar for the next 2 days. He has studied so hard and I want to wish him luck! Send good vibes his way. The time has almost come for us to move too. The house is ready. We get the truck on Thursday morning. I am anxious to get the boxes out of my house but that means we are really leaving. It is kind of a big time at our house right now. Hopefully the next few days go smoothly. Wish us luck on driving for three straight days(10 hours each day) with two children.

The West Wing

We have a great friend with a great job with even greater perks. He has taken us lots of places, including the White House Easter Egg Roll. This weekend he decided that he wanted to take us on another tour before we left town because he is not sure if he will have the same job when we return. He took us on a guided tour of the West Wing. We saw the oval office, the rose garden, the press room, the cabinet room, the situation room, the roosevelt room and the breezeway that you see in all the movies, the name is escaping me right now.

We took Alexa with us, she wasn't quite as impressed as we thought she would be but she was very impressed with her badge that said Intern on it. We had such a great time. It was so cool to be in the actual places that history is made. I wish we would have been able to take pictures in the oval office, but it wasn't allowed. Here are ones that were allowed:

On our way to the White House

The Breezeway

Our Little Intern

The Rose Garden

The Press Room

The NBC chair in the press room

A great view of the Bush's home

Cute Father and Daughter

Come With Me!!!

A great day at the White House

Thanks for a great experience Brian. We will never forget it. We are going to miss doing things like this when we live in Colorado.

On a packing note. I am almost ready to go. Thanks Andrea for taking the kids this morning. It is amazing how much you can get done without a two year old running around. Jeff registered my car this morning for me, thanks babe. I hope I never see another Virginia state trooper again.

Dallin stayed home with Rebecca and had a much needed nap, this is him on the ride home. Thanks Rebecca

Thanks for Ruining my Day!!!!

This is what I should have said to the state trooper who pulled me over today just as I was getting on I-95. I was minding my own business and doing everything right. He was behind me on a few sidestreets and just as I got on the VERY BUSY freeway he decides to pull me over. He comes to the window and says, "ma'am your registration is expired" I tried to tell him that it is a leased vehicle and we have not gotten our tags from the dealership yet. He doesn't care and just asks for my license and registration and returns to his car to make out the ticket. I am so mad at this point. I try to explain myself to him but does he care that I am a law abiding citizen who has never had a traffic violation, pays her taxes, obeys the speed limit and picks up trash when others leave it behind? He hands me my ticket and says I am free to go. I actually say thank you and roll up the window. I am so mad that I said thank you to this man.

I then try to merge back onto the freeway but it is too busy. (I-95 south has got to be the worst freeway in the country.) So I have to take sidestreets to get to my destination and I am late and flustered.

Does anyone else get annoyed that we have to pay to register our cars every year? And in Virginia we also have to pay a huge property tax on our cars as well. I feel like we are padding the governor's salary. I hate that anyone out there would think that I should be lumped into a group that is irresponsible. We are moving in 4 days and registering my car was the last thing on my mind. Couldn't he have cut me a break? I should have asked him if I were his wife what he would do. I then came home to finish my errands and saw him three more times. He was just driving in circles looking for people to nab. At least Jeff and I did get to go on our date at Mike's and I kind of forgot about the mean cop who had no sympathy whatsoever.

Thanks for reading my rant.

From the mouths of babes

I have to write these down so I don't forget about them. I need to do this more because I don't want to forget. Well, Alexa is just a funny kid. She is often saying things that just crack us up. Yesterday Dallin was running away from me like he always does. I had to actually run to get him because he rounded a corner. Brynn was outside with me and when I returned with Dallin she was laughing. She said you should have just heard Alexa. I guess Alexa was watching me run because she said,"Look at my mom she is such a track star. She's so great!" I say that Dallin needs to be on a track team because he is so fast and I guess she has caught on.
Later last night I had just taken a shower and was trying to get Dallin to eat dinner so I could dry my hair to go out to dinner with some friends. I was frustrated because he wouldn't eat. I said,"Just eat so I can go dry my hair!" Alexa looks at me with a perplexed look and she said matter of factly, "Mom, just let him figure it out. If he wants to eat he will and if not he won't. Just go dry your hair." I was laughing so hard because she was right. Is she fifteen already? She is so funny and so smart. I guess she is helping me along in my parenting. Thanks Lex.

It's a Mess in Here!!!

I won't subject you to a picture of my home at this moment in time, but let's just say it is scary. I have started packing full force. The kitchen is halfway done. Alexa's room is packed and Dallin's will be by the end of the day. That means that my kids are bored because stupid mom packed their toys. I just have to get a room done and theirs seemed like a good place to start. Our room is coming along, but we have the most stuff(aka:junk). We have been married for 7 years now and it seems like most of the things we own are on their last legs. Hopefully it will hold out one more year in Colorado. For right now I am sitting amongst boxes and lots of stuff waiting to be put in boxes. I can't wait to actually be in Colorado and UN-packed, then life will be sane again.

The Money and the Bucks

Alexa just came into my room and said the funniest thing. She got 5 dollars from the tooth fairy, ( I know way too much) but anyway, she said this. "Mom, I forgot my money today when we went on errands. The silver ones are the money and the green ones are the bucks!" She even had hand motions going. To hear your five year old say bucks! is kind of funny. She has been upset all week because everyone was saying bucks instead of dollars but I guess she decided that she could say it too.

( I packed three boxes and cleaned out a dresser.)

Anything to Put it Off

I hate packing. I have to pack our whole house. We are moving in less than two weeks and I am in total denial. Dallin is sleeping and Alexa is watching a movie, the perfect time to pack, but I don't want to. I have cleaned my kitchen, bathroom and I am finishing my laundry. I have to have a clean house before I can pack. I am hoping that I get the urge to pack soon, but I doubt it. I think I will just have to force myself to do it. I think it is so hard because I just want to spend time with friends before we have to say goodbye. Taking the time to pack means less time with them. I would rather be hanging with these kiddos at the pool!
Yesterday I went and got my haircut and then we went down to the Gymboree outlet to get a dress for Alexa that I have been trying to buy on EBay and they finally have it in the outlet. Of course I brought Brynn along to make it an outing and we went to Subway for dinner and then I read a magazine last night because I was "too tired" to pack. I need help people!! I guess right now I am going to go around the house with a garbage bag and dejunk and then hopefully the packing bug will bite me. Don't hold your breath!
p.s. I finally did start and I found the bag. The one with the shirts, the bra and the can opener. I guess I can return them all since I replaced them.

It Was A Success

I threw a surprise baby shower for my friend tonight and it was a success. She had no idea that I had put it together and it was great!!! Everyone that came had a great time and we were able to celebrate the upcoming birth of her little girl. We are moving to Colorado in two weeks and I was so glad that I got to throw her a shower before we left. Congratulations Brynn!! I love you and I can't wait to meet your sweet little girl. The diaper cake that I made. I really am proud of myself for making my own and not paying an arm and a leg for one off of the internet.
The spread. The diaper cake made a great centerpiece.
My fruit tart, which I am quite proud of. Brynn loves fruit tarts so I thought I would try and make her one. It was actually quite fun to make.(I made two!)
Brynn with the diaper cake.
Brynn with her "handbook". Our friend's eight year old girl made Brynn a handbook and band-aids to help her take care of her little girl. It was so cute!!
Congratulations Brynn!! This little girl is joining such a great family.

First Lost Tooth

Alexa lost her first baby tooth yesterday! I thought she was too young to lose a tooth, but I guess not. Her tooth has been loose for a few weeks and yesterday she came in the kitchen holding her tooth saying she pulled it out because it was getting in her way while she was trying to eat her peanut butter sandwich. She just yanked it and her mouth was pretty bloody. She rinsed and was so excited to have the tooth in her hands and not bugging her anymore. She definitely doesn't get her bravery from me. I remember when I was young that I would make my parents take me to the dentist to have my teeth pulled because I would not pull it out myself. Way to go kid!!
The last picture on the post is what she bought with her money from the tooth fairy. She had told Jeff to email the tooth fairy letting her know that she wanted either a necklace or a bracelet. The tooth fairy went shopping last night and couldn't find any "jewelry" for under $14 so she got a five dollar bill. We told her that this was a special tooth and that the tooth fairy doesn't always leave five dollars. She is so excited to have her own money though. She has been talking about all the things she can buy now. This will be a good way to teach her about saving. My little baby is growing up!
p.s. she forgot about the bracelet when I took her to Lakeshore Learning and she saw some new paints. Go figure

The last few days have been filled with such wonderful family activities. We finally had a chance to celebrate Dallin's 2nd birthday. We hadn't had a cake or a candle for him to blow out and on Sunday we finally had the time to do it. Dallin had so much fun and loved eating the frosting by sticking his finger right in the cake. We also have been having fun days at the pool and enjoying the fireworks show in DC. We truly are blessed to live where we do and have each other as family.
Last year at this time we were not all together. I know this blog is usually just fun, but I want to get kind of serious. Last summer I was getting the help I needed at an eating disorder clinic. This was not by choice. I wanted to go home, but thankfully my wonderful mother in law Karen and my loving husband would not let me deteriorate any further. I spent the whole summer bettering myself so that I could have fun days like these with my cute family. I am so thankful that Karen and Jeff did not give up on me. I lived with Karen for 4 months and it was such a blessing. I got to know her better and we were able to keep her company too. I missed Jeff so much that it hurt sometimes but being together now is never taken for granted.
As I think about all of the sacrifices that others made for this country I think about how wonderful it is to live here and be able to better myself and become who I want to be. I continue to work on being the best me that I can and I am so thankful for the second chance that I have been given. Thank you to you all for your love and support. It has been a wonderful, tough and agonizing year all in one, but I wouldn't change it for the world.

I'm So Cute!!!!

I was looking at old pictures the other day. Jeff got an external harddrive and organized our pictures into years. I was looking at Alexa's baby pictures and she said "Mom, who is that?" I said, " who do you think?" She said, "Me?" I said, "Yep!" Then she said, "Mom, I was so cute!" and I still am!" Luckily she has such great self esteem. I think she was a cute baby and she still is a cutie!! You are hilarious Alexa.

My Life Is Over!!!!!

Notice that it is 6:52 on a Sunday morning, the one morning I do let myself kind of sleep in. We were greeted at 6:30 by Dallin!!!! How did he get in our room?! He is in a crib. He climbed out!!! I am so upset that he climbed out. That was my one sanity that I knew if he was in his crib he was safe. He would stay there and I could have a break. I put him back in his bed and watched him. He climbed onto the bumper pad( I knew this should have gone a long time ago) and onto his pillow and threw one leg over the side and then kind of flung his body over and onto the floor. We were going to keep him in his crib when we moved because he was contained, but I guess that theory is shot. Hopefully without the bumper and the pillow we can buy a little time, but I think the crib is on the way out. :( My life if over!!!

Sorry about the number of exclamation points. I am in total shock.
